Make a Slack emoji with a transparent background

Transparent emojis look best because they blend with light and dark Slack themes. This tool keeps the transparency of your PNG, WebP, AVIF or GIF.

Does the converter keep transparency?

Yes. If your source image has transparent areas, the 128 × 128 PNG (or animated GIF) keeps them. You can check this in the preview, which shows the result on a light and on a dark background.

How to get a transparent image in the first place

  • Export a logo or illustration as PNG with a transparent background from your design tool.
  • For a photo, remove the background in an image editor or a background-removal tool, then save as PNG.
  • JPEG cannot be transparent: converting a JPG will keep its solid background.

Dark mode and white halos

Cut-outs with a light fringe can show a white halo on dark themes. Check the dark preview, and if you see an outline, clean the edge in your editor before converting. Then follow how to add the emoji to Slack.
