From JPG to a Slack-ready emoji
Photos are the classic source for team emojis, but they are rarely square and always bigger than 128 KB. Choose the square around the face or object, and the tool crops, resizes and outputs a PNG that Slack accepts.
JPEG has no transparency, so the result keeps the photo’s background. If you want the subject on a transparent background, cut it out in an image editor first, then convert the PNG; see transparent Slack emojis.
Get a good result from a photo
- Crop on the face or the main subject; the rest is lost at 128 pixels.
- Pick photos with good light and a plain background.
- Phone photos are oriented correctly automatically; no need to rotate them first.
- Check the light and dark previews: a white photo background can look boxy on dark themes.
Other formats
The tool also reads PNG, WebP, AVIF, BMP and GIF files up to 10 MB. HEIC photos from some phones are not supported yet; share or export them as JPEG first. See the full size and format requirements.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the output a JPG or a PNG?
- A PNG. PNG stays sharp at small sizes and is accepted by Slack as a custom emoji.
- Are my photos uploaded to your server?
- No. There is no server: the photo is processed in your browser and nothing is stored.
